Squad swimming is a great way to develop lifelong skills, refine their technique and most importantly have fun in the water. Rackley Squad Programs caters for all abilities and the focus is on developing each swimmer to reach their potential and love of the sport. Training sessions will provide swimmers with the skills and stamina needed to set their sights on competing at their chosen level be it Local, School, Masters or National level.

Our passionate coaching team, led by Richard Scarce, work as a team and are aligned in working with swimmers at Miami to help them achieve their individual and group goals.  The team include Richard Scarce - Head Coach, Paul Crosswell - National Age Coach, Raelene Ryan - Open Water, Surf and Adults Coach, Ky Hurst and Lindsey Clyde - Surf Squad Coaches, Laura Matthews - State Development Coach, Flavio Barbara and Mark Jordan - Bronze/Junior Squad Coaches. We are also very fortunate to have Strength and Conditioning coach Klinton Hoare as a part of our elite coaching team at the Miami Aquatic Centre.

The Miami Aquatic Centre has two 50m FINA-approved outdoor pools, with the main competition pool fitted with Omega starting blocks. The Miami Aquatic Centre is also home to the Miami Performance Training Zone, featuring strength and conditioning equipment, Functional Fitness Alpha rigs, Spin room, as well an infrared sauna, and hot and cold baths to aid in the recovery process.

At Rackley Miami, we encourage Squad swimmers to join the swim club (Miami Swim Club) which enables swimmers to swim at our regular swim club nights during the summer season as well as competing at local, Queensland and National Swim meets. For more information on the Club and how to join, visit our website here!

Squads for all levels

Mini Squad
Fun & safety is the primary objective of Mini Squad swimming, coincidentally, it is the reason we ‘learn to swim’ initially. Mini Squad is designed for children predominantly 6 years and older and is targeted at swimmers that have completed all the skills associated with learning to swim lessons.  Mini squad’s focus is 1-2 key concepts every session while introducing swimmers to a squad environment.

Junior Squad
Junior Squad is focused on building stronger swimmers. The sessions focus on fundamental swimming skills and developing your child‘s ability to learn how to train and develop a love for the sport through having fun. Swimmers will be introduced to a variety of racing skills as they continue to master the four competitive strokes and gain greater proficiency in turns, starts and finishes. Recommended to attend minimum 2 sessions a week and encouraged to join Miami Swimming Club and attend club nights and local meets. Equipment required – Fins, pull buoy, kickboard and water bottle.

Senior Fitness
Designed for high school & university multi-sport athletes. It targets the specific endurance and speed requirements of the athlete’s primary sport and event. Sessions are designed to help swimmers build fitness and maintain swimming skills. There is no minimum number of training sessions; if swimmers wish to compete at a school level or advance into other squads, they are encouraged to complete a minimum of 3 sessions a week. Swimmers in this squad are encouraged to join Miami Swim Club and compete at local and state-level meets where appropriate. *Equipment required – fins, pull buoy, kickboard.

Bronze Squad
The Bronze Squad is the entry group into our performance-focused squads. In the Bronze Squad, we focus on encouraging the lifelong love and appreciation of swimming as we introduce the swimmers to more rigorous training. Squad sessions at Bronze Level emphasise stroke technique while incorporating more aerobic endurance, racing skills and dry land sessions. It aims to continue developing swimmers’ conditioning for competition and create training habits and behaviours that give athletes the highest chance of long-term success. Recommended to attend minimum 3 sessions a week and expected to join the Miami swimming club, attend club nights and compete at coach-selected meets. Equipment required – Fins, pull buoy, kickboard, and water bottle.

Silver Squad
The Silver Squad is designed for swimmers who wish to compete at a high standard at State level competitions and aspire towards Age National Qualification. The program will continue to advance the conditioning of both aerobic and anaerobic systems. Swimmers are required to meet advancing training standards and commitments as they begin to form a stronger link between training and performance during this stage of their development. Squad sessions at Silver Level maintain an emphasis on stroke technique while incorporating more aerobic endurance, racing skills and dry land sessions. It is aimed at continuing to develop swimmers’ conditioning for competition but also creating training habits and behaviours that give athletes the highest chance of long-term success. *Equipment required – fins, paddles, pull buoy, snorkel & kickboard. Recommended to attend a minimum 5 - 7 sessions a week and must compete at coach-selected competitions
